It's no surprise that AI has become a powerful tool for optimizing LinkedIn profiles, making it easier to create a polished, professional presence... but you CAN get it wrong!
As a LinkedIn profile writer, I’ve seen firsthand how AI tools can streamline the optimization process and give it just a bit more pizzazz.

Whether you’re job hunting, building your personal brand, or just looking to stand out, this session will arm you with practical tips to let AI do the hard work.
Your Experience is the “Steak,” and AI Gives the “Sizzle”
Late last year, I worked with a client who was struggling to land interviews for a role, even though they had incredible experience. Their LinkedIn profile was… okay, but it didn’t pop or reflect their expertise in a way that would stand out to recruiters.
That’s when we decided to use a few AI tools to revamp their profile—and the results were exactly what we hoped for. After the refresh, their profile started popping up for the right searches for relevant roles, and they felt more confident submitting their resume and profile for higher-level roles.
Am I going to make a claim here that dozens of recruiters were flocking to their profile? No, that’s not realistic. (If a LinkedIn guru makes that claim, beware!!)
But, what did happen was that they were able to get “unstuck” in their job search because their profile actually was optimized for the roles they wanted, not just the roles they already had.
Hate AI? It’s Here to Stay…
Let’s talk about the biggest mistake professionals make when it comes to LinkedIn profiles: ignoring AI tools altogether. Here’s the reality—most professionals are already using AI in some form to enhance their profiles. Whether it’s for keyword research, content suggestions, or crafting polished descriptions, AI has become a game-changer in creating profiles that stand out.
If your profile isn’t optimized for the right keywords and phrases, you’re risking being overlooked in searches and by recruiters.
The good news? You don’t need to be an AI expert to take advantage of these tools. Think of AI as your writing assistant, not a replacement for your voice or expertise. It helps you work smarter by doing the heavy lifting—analyzing job descriptions, suggesting key phrases, and even drafting sections for your profile. You provide the insights, and AI helps you refine and elevate your message.
Don’t let the fear of technology hold you back. With AI-powered tools, you can ensure your LinkedIn profile is not just polished but strategically optimized to get noticed. It’s no longer a “nice-to-have”; it’s the expectation.
Staying ahead means leveraging these tools to showcase your skills and stand out in a crowded professional space. Why not let AI do the hard part so you can focus on what matters most—your career?
“AI is Going to Take Over My Profile”
One of the biggest myths I hear about using AI on LinkedIn is, “Won’t it make my profile sound robotic or inauthentic?” It’s a valid concern, but here’s the truth: AI is a tool, not a substitute for your voice. When used thoughtfully, AI enhances your message without stripping away your personality. In fact, most professionals are already using AI to optimize their profiles—it’s quickly becoming the norm, not the exception.
If you’re worried about sounding too automated, consider this: AI doesn’t take over your profile—it assists you in refining it. It helps identify keywords and phrases that align with your skills and career goals, which ensures your profile is optimized for searchability. But the heart of your profile—the experiences, accomplishments, and personal tone—is still entirely yours. AI simply amplifies your message, making it more polished and professional.
Neglecting these tools can leave you at a disadvantage. Recruiters and potential clients are increasingly searching for profiles that stand out in a sea of sameness, and AI helps you rise to the top. Think of it like hiring a personal writing assistant—it saves you time, boosts your visibility, and helps you show up as the best version of yourself online.
By not leveraging AI, you risk falling behind while others use it to position themselves as thought leaders or top candidates.
The expectation today is that your profile is not just written—it’s optimized.
And with the right tools, you don’t need to be a tech expert to make it happen. AI is your partner in crafting a profile that gets results while staying authentically you.
AI Takes the Guesswork out of Optimization
Here’s the shift in mindset that can make all the difference: AI isn’t something to fear or shy away from—it’s a resource designed to help you shine. Rather than thinking of AI as a replacement for your voice or creativity, start seeing it as an assistant that works alongside you to fine-tune your professional presence.
It doesn’t take over your profile; it enhances it by identifying the right keywords, sharpening your phrasing, and ensuring your profile aligns with what recruiters, hiring managers, and potential clients are actively searching for.
The key is to use AI strategically. You’re still in the driver’s seat, making the big decisions about what goes on your profile. AI simply provides you with the tools to make smarter, faster, and more effective choices. It’s like having a career coach and content editor rolled into one—analyzing trends, suggesting improvements, and helping you articulate your value in a way that resonates with your audience.
This is where most people go wrong. They either try to go it alone, spending hours tweaking their profiles without a clear strategy, or they ignore the power of AI altogether, assuming it’s only for tech-savvy experts.
But the truth is, AI is accessible to everyone. It takes the guesswork out of profile optimization, allowing you to focus on what truly matters: showcasing your unique skills, achievements, and goals.
By embracing AI as part of your LinkedIn strategy, you’re not just keeping up—you’re staying ahead. This isn’t about jumping on a trend; it’s about meeting professional expectations in a competitive marketplace. The profiles that get noticed today are polished, optimized, and strategically crafted—and AI can help you create one that stands out for all the right reasons. The future of LinkedIn is here, and with the right mindset, you’re ready to make it work for you.
How to Use AI to Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile
AI cannot read your mind, and you still need to do your preparation before expecting it to spit out a polished professional profile. (Like my alliteration there?)
Be sure to reference the session I did last week as a reference point for the most important sections you need to optimize. Then, follow these steps below to start refreshing your profile with a tool like Claude or ChatGPT.
Remember: your goal is to create a polished, engaging, and keyword-rich profile.
1. Gather Key Information
List your accomplishments: Jot down your career highlights, key projects, and measurable outcomes. Reference your resume and existing LinkedIn profile as a starting point.
Identify target roles or industries: Define the audience you’re trying to attract.
Compile keywords: Use job postings, industry jargon, or tools like Jobscan to gather relevant keywords.
2. Optimize Your Headline
Prompt: “Create a LinkedIn headline for [your job role/field] that includes [specific skills or keywords].”
Example: “Data-Driven Marketing Leader | Driving Engagement & Growth | CRM & Analytics Expert.”
3. Craft a Strong About Section
Prompt: “Write a LinkedIn About section for a [your role] with [X years of experience] that highlights [skills/achievements/goals] and ends with a strong call to action.”
Example: “As a marketing operations leader with 10+ years of experience, I specialize in creating data-driven strategies that boost engagement and deliver measurable results. Let’s connect to discuss how I can help you grow your business!”
4. Highlight Your Experience
Prompt: “Write a LinkedIn Experience section for a [job title] at [company] where I [describe your key responsibilities and achievements]. Include measurable results and action verbs.”
Tip: Make each bullet point clear, concise, and results-focused.
5. Showcase Skills
Prompt: “What are the most in-demand LinkedIn skills for [your industry or role]?”
Add these skills to your profile to improve searchability and highlight your expertise. You can list up to 100 skills.
Tip: AI can help you generate this list based on your existing profile and resume, plus any job descriptions you give it as a reference point.
6. Refresh Your Call to Action
Prompt: “What’s a strong call-to-action to include in my LinkedIn About section to encourage connections?”
Example: “Open to collaborations, consulting opportunities, and sharing insights on [topic]. Let’s connect!”
7. Review and Refine
Prompt: “Audit my LinkedIn profile for clarity, engagement, and keyword optimization. What sections need improvement?”
ChatGPT can provide actionable tips based on the information you provide.
8. Test Keywords and Phrasing
Prompt: “Suggest alternative phrasing for [specific section] to better align with industry trends and searchability.”
Update your profile to ensure it ranks higher in LinkedIn search results.
9. Final Proofread
Prompt: “Proofread this LinkedIn profile summary and ensure it’s free of errors and flows naturally: [paste your summary here].”
Always review for consistency and tone.
Tip: Do one section at a time, as you may run out of characters if you try to paste the entire profile.
